Preparation of a Nano CaO Sorbent for Improvement the Capacity for CO₂ Capture Reaction

Abstract

In this work, carbonation reaction of a nano CaO sorbent derived from synthesized CaCO₃ was investigated. Calcium carbonate was synthesized by the reaction of calcium nitrate and sodium bicarbonate. An ultrasonic device was used to produce fine grains of CaCO₃. The sorbent was characterized by SEM, XRD, and nitrogen adsorption. The reaction of various CaO sorbents with CO₂ was investigated in a thermogravimeter. The nano synthesized CaO sorbent showed an improved initial reaction rate for capturing CO₂ with respect to other usual sorbents.
