Iron(III) Complexes of Cysteine and Methyl Glycine Aminophenol Ligands

Abstract

Two new amino acid derivatives of aminophenol ligands with nitrogen and oxygen donor sets were synthesized by the Mannich reaction of cysteine (HLCys), 2-(methylamino)acetic acid (HLMG) with phenol and characterized by IR and 1H NMR spectroscopies. The mononuclear iron(III) complexes of these ligands have been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques, ESI-MS, and magnetic susceptibility studies. The molecular mass of each Fe(III) complexes determined by ESI-MS show a molecule with two aminophenolate ligands coordinated to Fe(III). The magnetic susceptibility studies indicate the presence of paramagnetic mononuclear iron(III) complexes.
