ABSTRACT
A new Co(II) polymer [Co(btc)(4,4′-bipyridine)]n 1 (H4btc = 3,3′,4,5′-biphenyl tetracarboxylic acid) was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P-1 with a = 6.4834(15), b = 13.495(3), c = 14.933(3) Å, α = 104.044(3), β = 98.844(3), γ = 94.987(3)°, V = 1241.9(5) Å3, Z = 2, Mr = 690.33, Dc = 1.846 Mg/m3, μ = 1.417 mm−1, F(000) = 704, the final R = 0.0491, and wR = 0.0925 for 4581 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I). The compound presents a three-dimensional (3D) network extended by both btc4− anions and 4,4′-bipyridine ligands in which the btc4− anions employ a chelating coordination mode. From the topology point of view, the structure could be described as a (3 4,5)-connected 3D network with (4.62)(42.66)(43.64.83) topology net. Infrared spectroscopy, elemental analyses, thermogravimetric analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction properties of 1 are also investigated.
