ABSTRACT
The efficient synthesis of 2-arylbenzimidazole derivatives is described by condensation of aldehydes and o-phenylenediamines in a single pot using AlOOH-SO3 nanoparticles (BNPs'SA) as a catalytic in excellent isolated yields. The variables investigated such as the amount of catalyst, reaction temperature, and the effect of various solvents are studied. Structural properties of BNPs'SA are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and FT-IR spectroscopy. The average of crystalline size of AlOOH-SO3 nanoparticles is 30–50 nm. The present procedure offers several advantages such as short reaction time, simple workup, recovery, and reusability of the catalyst.
