Abstract
2-Aminoacetophenone-2-furoylhydrazone (Haafh) has been synthesized from the reaction, of 2-aminoacetophenone with 2-furoylhydrazine in the presence of catalytic amount of acetic acid. Complexes of OV(IV), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(ll) and Hg(II) haying the chemical compositions VO(Haafh)2SO4, M(Haafh)2Cl2 and M(aafh)2 have been prepared and characterized by their elemental analyses. The complexes are found to be nonelectrolytes in DMF and MeCN solutions. IR data indicate monodentate bonding of Haafh in VO(Haafh)2SO4, bidentate bonding through the carbonyl oxygen and azomethine nitrogen in M(Haafh)2Cl2, and tridentate bonding through the carbonyl. oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and amine nitrogen in M(aafh)2. The structure of the complexes has been elucidated by vsing magnetic susceptibility, electronic, photoacoustic, esr, ir and nmr (1H and 13C) spectral studies.
