Abstract
The reactions of iron(II) chloride with primary amines 2-aminobenzimidazole (abi) and 2(2′-aminophenyDbenzimidazole (apbi) and the Schiff bases N-(p-methylbenzylidene)-2-aminobenzimidazole (pmbabi), N-(o-hydroxybenzylidene)-2-aminobenzimidazole (ohbabi), N-(benzylidene)-2(2-aminophenyl)-benzimidazole (bapbi) and K-(o-hydroxybenzylidene)-2 (2′-aminophenyDbenzimidazole (ohbapbi) yield complexes of general formula [Fe(L)Cl2] except for [Fe(pmbabi)2Cl2].
The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity and magnetic measurements and i.r., electronic and mass spectroscopic studies. The results suggest a pseudotetrahedral environment for the iron.
