Abstract
A few macrocyclic complexes of the type [M(TTDT)(H2O)2]X2 (where TTDT = the title Schiff's base macrocyclic ligand obtained by the condensation of N,N′-bis (2-aminophenyl)-o-phenylenediamine and acetyl acetone, and X = ClO4 − and BF4 −) have been synthesised by template and non template methods. The free macrocyclic Schiff base was isolated using cyanide extrication procedure. The ligand as well as the complexes were characterised using various spectrochemical techniques. Complexes probably acquire octahedral geometries by planar coordination through four nitrogen atoms of the ligand and axial coordination through two water molecules. The coordination of water molecules is also evidenced by thermogravimetric analysis and differet ligand field parameters have also been calculated for the complexes. The complex [Ni(TTDT)(H2O)2](C104)2 has been subjected to a number of reactions in order to study their effect on the coordination behaviour of the central metal atom.
