Abstract

Polyamidoxime (H2L) and its transition metal complexes have been synthesized using 1,4-bis(5-aminobenzimidazole)butane, which has been obtained from 1,4-bis(5-nitrobenzimidazole)butane and (E, E)-dichloroglyoxime in absolute ethanol. Nickel(II), cobalt(II) and cobalt(III) complexes of H2L have a metal:ligand ratio of 1:2 and the ligand coordinates through the N atoms, as most of the (E, E)-dioximes. [Co(HL)2(L′)C1] has been prepared with L′ = pyridine, 2,6-dimethylpyridine, 2-mercaptopyridine, triphenylarsine and thiophene, together with a chloride ions as axial ligands. The structures of the polyamidoxime metal complexes have been characterized by 1H-NMR, IR and elemental analysis data.
