Abstract
Acetylacetonebis(salicyl al dehyde hydrazone) (H2absh) having 4 N and 2 O-donor sites, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, m.p., infrared and 1H NMR spectra. The complexes of the general formula M(absh) where M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II), have been isolated and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, electrical conductance, magnetic moments, spectral (electronic and infrared) and X-ray diffraction studies. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra of the Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes suggest a distorted octahedral geometry around the metal ions. The infrared spectra indicate that the ligand binds to the metal ion through both the phenolate oxygen and all four azomethine nitrogens. X-ray diffraction studies suggests an isostructural, ortnorhombic crystal lattice for the Co(II) and zn(II) complexes, probable structures of the complexes are suggested.
