Abstract

Eight copper(II) complexes were prepared by reacting CuX2(X = ClO4 , NO3 , Cl and Br) with meso(a) and rac (β) isomers of bis (propylsufinyl)ethane. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectra and magnetic studies. In all cases, the copper ion bonds to the sulfoxide noiety via the oxygen atom. The configuration of the complexes may be D4h. From the e.s.r. spectra of Cu(a-L)2 < ClO4)2, Cu(β -L)2(ClO4)2 and Cu(a-L)Cl2 (g = 2.404, 2.326 and 2.325 respectively), it appears that Cu-L bonds are ionic.
