Synthesis and Characterisation of some Manganese(III) Complexes of Quadridentate Schiff Bases

Abstract

Manganese(III) complexes of the type [Mn(sal₂-pn)X(H₂O)] and [Mn(sal₂-bn)X(H₂O)] where H₂ sal₂-pn and H₂sal₂-bn are N,N'-bis (salicylidene)di-iminopropane and N,N′-bis(salicylidene)-di-iminobutane, X = F, C1, Br, I and SCN and n = 1 or 0 have been isolated and characterised by microanalysis, room temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements and infrared and electronic spectroscopy. The complexes are high-spin, with evidence for tetragonal distortion.
