Abstract

A series of 14–16-membered tetraazamacrocyclic complexes have been prepared by the condensation reactions of 1, 2-diamino-ethane, 1, 3-diaminopropane or ortho-phenylenediamine with dibenzoylmethane in the presence of rhodium(III), iridium(III) and platinum(II) ions as templates. Structures and bonding of the macrocyclic complexes have been proposed based on elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, electronic spectral studies and conductivity, as well as magnetic susceptibility measurements. The stereochemistry around rhodium and iridium ions is proposed to be octahedral, while a square planar geometry is proposed for the platinum complexes.
