Abstract
5-(Aryl) azo-8-quinolinol (LH = L H-L H) forms mercury(II) complexes of the type (L)2Hg similar to the well known transition metal arylazo-8-quinolinolates but 5-( o -carboxyphenyl) azo-8-quinolinol (L6 HH') forms two types viz., the quinolinates (L6H') 2Hg and the binuclear type (L6HgCl)HgCl. The quinolinates (L)2Hg and (L6 H')2Hg are tetrahedral while the mercury atom in (L6 HgCl)HgCl is a three-coordinated neutral species. These complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, conductance and IR data.
