Abstract
In this introduction to the special issue on safe schools for queer and trans students, the authors call attention to the role of professional counselors in developing safer school climates for all students. In doing so, a brief history of the safe schools movement in the United States is provided. The authors introduce the articles contained in this special issue and outline the most pressing social justice issues professional counselors across settings must address to provide culturally-responsive interventions to queer and trans students.
