Pages 405-415 | Published online: 22 Nov 2013

Abstract

In this conclusion to the special issue on safe schools for queer and trans youth, the authors provide six directions for professional counselors to utilize in creating and maintaining safe schools for queer and trans students. Each of the six directions is drawn from themes found across the articles in this special issue and includes important considerations and strategies for professional counselors to utilize in their work. The authors review the importance of employing intersectionality and inclusivity; using assessment, research, and program evaluation in serving queer and trans youth; connections through consultation, collaboration, and stakeholders; utilizing a systemic lens; finding tools and resources; and the importance of relationships and trans and queer narratives.
