“Let's Talk about Sex” … In School

Pages 116-120 | Published online: 21 Jun 2013

Abstract

The Education of Eros by Dennis Carlson presents a comprehensive history of American sex education, from 1950 to 2010, presented through the wider historical and cultural lens of this period in American history. Framed through a series of societal “problems,” Carlson presents a history that demonstrates the impact of American life, politics, and belief systems on the sex education teens received in schools. Despite some challenges in organization, the text is well written, clear, and informative. Well referenced, this text is an excellent resource for readers interested in beginning research on one of the many topics taken up within the book.
