Coming Together to Calm the Hunger: Group Therapy Program for Adults Diagnosed With Anorexia Nervosa

&
Pages 309-328 | Published online: 08 Nov 2013

Abstract

The purpose of this article is twofold: to provide a comprehensive rationale for offering experiential groups for female adult clients who are struggling with disordered eating, particularly anorexia nervosa, and to present a detailed 14-group session program, called Coming Together to Calm the Hunger, which builds upon the rationale by demonstrating how to implement an interactive, experiential-driven treatment focus. Special mention is made on how to handle and process the unique personality characteristics the participants may bring to group. This article is particularly valuable to those counselors who do not have the resources or time to create a comprehensive group program. Strengths and limitations of the program are addressed.
