Abstract

In this article, heavy fraction (>350°C) of tire pyrolysis oil was used to modify road bitumen. Experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of the modification conditions, such as blending temperature, shear rate, blending time, and admixing amount of heavy fraction on the properties of modified asphalt. The results revealed that the heavy fraction could be used as the modifier for road bitumen, and the proper modification conditions were the temperature range of 140–160°C for 10 min, shear rate of 2,000 rpm and the proportion of heavy fraction 1 wt%, and that the modified asphalt showed excellent ductility before and after the aging test.

Notes

aQuality standard was expressed as AH-70 petroleum asphalts for heavy traffic road pavement of GB/T 15180-2000.

bMass loss was expressed as [m(original) m (after TFOT)]/m (original) × 100.

cPenetration ratio was expressed as Ductility(after TFOT)/Ductility(original) × 100.
