Abstract

By using beef fat as a feedstock, methanol as an esterifying agent, and CH3ONa as the catalyst, effects of reaction temperature and reaction time and amount of catalyst and ratio of methanol and beef fat on biodiesel yield were researched. The experimental results showed that the yield of biodiesel increased with the increase of reaction temperature and reaction time amount of catalyst and ratio of methanol and beef fat. The optimizing operation conditions would be confined if the reaction temperature, reaction time, amount of catalyst, and ratio of methanol and beef fat were 65°C, 1 h, 1%, and 10:1, respectively. Further, the properties of a biodiesel sample were compared with biodiesel. The results showed that the properties of biodiesel were almost close to that of diesel.
