Effect of pyrolysis time and temperature on the characterization of biochars derived from biomass

&

ABSTRACT

The combined effect of operating parameters like pyrolysis temperature (400°C and 800°C) and time (1, 2, and 3 h) on the physicochemical properties of biochars derived from wooden dust (WD), rice husk (RH), and sugarcane bagasse (SB) as feedstocks were investigated. The results reflect that operating temperature and time for pyrolysis acted as the predominant factors that determined the properties of biochars, which can be used as an alternative source of energy for different purposes. Pyrolysis time and temperature showed a significant effect on the organic, inorganic, and functional groups of biochars and also enhanced biochar properties in terms of gross calorific value (GCV) and its carbon percentage.
