ABSTRACT

Ionic liquids (ILs) are special designer solvents as they are nonvolatile and liquid at ambient temperature, leading to a wide range of applications. Due to this fact, researcher has been interested to study features of ionic liquids. Refractive index is a vital factor that determines the purity and concentration of a substance. The refractive index helps to control the quality and also to characterize the ionic liquids in chemistry and engineering. In this study, the artificial neural networks (ANN) were used to predict the refractive index of ionic liquids (ILs). The experimental outcomes are utilized for training and testing the ANNs based on optimal models via multilayer perceptron (MLP). By Applying MLP-ANN on 688 data points and finding optimum parameters, the estimated values of refractivity index were compared with experimental data, which showed a reasonable agreement with the experimental results. Consequently, such reliable and precise results highlight the potential of the MLP-ANN models for predicting the refractive index of ILs and Alcohols.
