ABSTRACT

The confectionery wastewater with high organic content was explored for biogas production by anaerobic treatment. A study was conducted by pre-treating the wastewater by ultrasound technology for an enhanced yield of biogas. Experiments were done in a batch reactor by varying the ratios of substrates like kitchen waste (KW), slaughterhouse waste (SHW) & coffee grounds (CGW) and tested for enhanced biogas generation. A kinetic study was also performed using the modified Gompertz model and Logistic model. The result reveals that there is an increase in the biogas production due to ultrasound pre-treatment. A higher cumulative biogas production was obtained for SHW as substrate compared to other co-substrates. It was found that the modified Gompertz model gave a better fit.
