Abstract
Our earth’s atmosphere is being compromised by +2.3G tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year mainly from the generation of electricity. Tidal energy resources are globally significant and should be developed as part of the diverse clean energy portfolio that will be necessary to reach expected future carbon reduction targets. In this article, an overview of some of the current tidal technologies is presented including different available designs of tidal turbines and existing large projects around the world. Given that the tidal energy resources are globally significant it is concluded that they should be developed as part of the diverse clean energy portfolio to reach expected future carbon reduction targets.
