ABSTRACT

Ecologically sustainable development (ESD) is the environmental component of sustainable development (SD). The main aim of this study is to explain the issues related to ESD from different points of view. Considering that environmental issues are essential to achieve SD goals, emphasizing the central role of ecological resources in SD is an important issue that makes it possible to suggest certain solutions that might help keep the global ecosystem sustainable for the desired SD.

The role of natural capital in clarifying concepts and linking the economic system with the environment is significant.
