Abstract
An econometric model designed to project economic activity in small and moderate sized towns is developed and empirically estimated. Measures of economic activity used in the analysis consist of population, income, retail sales, and employment in three major categories. Coefficients derived from the econometric model are used as the basis for the development of a computer model useful in forecasting economic activity in the communities for 1980. Sample projections are provided for two Indiana communities. Results are largely consistant with expectations. No knowledge of econometrics is required to obtain projections from the computer model. Therefore the model is useful in both classroom teaching and extension work.
