Demographic knowledge of local officials: Misperceptions of population change

Abstract

The knowledge that local elected officials have about some fundamental elements of demographic change within their own jurisdictions is tested for the first time. In certain types of jurisdictions, this knowledge is shown to be very inaccurate. Implications for future research and community development efforts are considered.
