This section features the best papers from the 2023 International School Choice and Reform Conference (ISCRC-2023) held MLK Weekend in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Since 2010, these conferences have featured great company, great food, great locales, and the best new school choice and school reform research from around the world. We thank the entire conference planning committee, but particularly co-chairs Anna J. Egalite of North Carolina State, and Angela Dills of Western Carolina University, who have done great work without complaint. We also thank the hard working the best paper committee members, Nina Buchanan, Deani van Pelt, Rodrigo Queiroz e Melo, M. Danish (Dany) Shakeel, Eric Wearne, and Tim Weekes.
This year the committee faced an unusually large number of fine entries, and so awarded four prizes rather than the usual three. These four Patrick Wolf Best Paper winners cover a range of fascinating and timely topics: ethnoracial teacher and student matching in charter and traditional public schools, narrative analyses of school choice arguments, the impacts of preconditions and regulations on willingness of private schools to participate in publicly funded school choice plans, and a broad empirical analysis of achievement differences across charter school sectors. Each paper plows new research ground.
Finally, we hope to see you at ISCRC-2024 in Madrid, January 4-7. Conference proposals are due August 4. For details, see https://internationalschoolchoiceconference.org/. Ole!
