The 11th International Conference on Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions was celebrated in Cusco, Peru, during September 11–13, 2018, under the main topic “An interdisciplinary approach”, where different areas of expertise from architecture to engineering work together towards a common understanding of the history, the material, the structure, the analysis, and the intervention. The conference has been organized since 1995 with previous editions having taken place in Barcelona (Spain), Guimarães (Portugal), Padua (Italy), New Delhi (India), Bath (UK), Shanghai (China), Wrocław (Poland), Mexico-City (Mexico) and Leuven (Belgium). The conference aims at creating an opportunity for the dissemination of state-of-art contributions on the study of historical structures among experts, authorities, and people interested in heritage buildings.
In this edition, several topics were considered, namely “History of construction and building technology”, “New technologies and techniques”, “Inspection, non-destructive and laboratory testing”, “Numerical modeling and structural analysis”, “Vulnerability and risk analysis regarding natural and man-made hazards”, “Seismic analysis and retrofit”, “Repair and strengthening techniques”, “Assessment and intervention of archaeological heritage”, “Durability and sustainability”, “Management of heritage structures and conservation strategies”, “Structural health monitoring” and “Interdisciplinary projects and case studies.”
The event was organized by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). The conference, under the chairmanship of Daniel Torrealva, Rafael Aguilar and Susana Moreira was a great success both in terms of organization and scientific quality.
This special issue includes a set of selected articles presented in the conference and significantly extended and revised by their authors. We hope that the readers will enjoy this issue and invite all interested experts to attend the next SAHC conference that will take place in Barcelona (Spain) during September 16–18, 2020 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the conference series, back to the original location of the first gathering.
