From the Editor-in-Chief

As I write this editorial, “amid the circling gloom” (Newman, 1833),  I am reminded of Wordsworth’s words said in his Prelude (Milnes & Tredell, 2009), ‘Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,’ that we are living in a momentous period of human history.

Writing from New York, the epicenter of the COVID19 pandemic, I feel so blessed to be alive, and I recall the image of Anne Frank (Frank, 1993) listening to the possible knock at the door by the monstrous Nazis prowling for the Jews. Everything else that has happened before this meteoric event pales into total insignificance- even 9/11, for example, looks like a child’s play.

With our Editors spread all over the world, from the East to the West and the North to the South, we have put together the Volume 21.3, with ease and pleasure. We have good news to share. The International Police Executive Symposium, IPES, to which this journal is affiliated has decided that the 2020 IPES Meeting will take place as planned, subject to a possible change in date (August 16–21, 2020), to be announced in June. The meeting will certainly happen in Rio, to be hosted by the Military Police of Rio (Brazil). If necessary, we will re-confirm those dates.

It will also to be noted that there is a ‘Call for Papers’ for a book on ‘Contemporary Police Challenges’ by a well-known Scholar, Professor Sanja Kutnjak and a few others. We will gratefully receive manuscripts submitted as chapters.

Finally, I am grateful to Laura Elizabeth, Production Editor; Di Jia, Associate Production Editor and, Xiaochen Hu, Managing Editor, as well as Girija Ilangovan. of Taylor and Francis, for their enormous help and great support.
