ABSTRACT

Assessing environmental threats being a consequence of floods from sewage systems is particularly relevant in light of climate change occurring in recent decades. The potential threats can be demonstrated only by hydrodynamic modeling. The main problem while simulating sewage systems operation is the selection of proper model rainfall. It should reflect the main characteristics of real rainfall phenomena occurring in the analyzed area. In Poland, regarding the lack of local models, the model rainfalls developed in Germany are recommended for use. However, there was no confirmation so far, whether these models correspond to Polish hydrological conditions. The aim of the work was, therefore, the verification of these rainfall standards through research on the variability of precipitation intensity over time, based on local databases. Statistical analysis of local hyetographs shapes indicated differences with the German standards. On this basis, detailed model rainfall patterns for the studied stations were proposed.
