Abstract
The purpose of this study was accomplished to review statistical data on Korean restaurant industry during 1979~2001 as first stage to make restaurant statistical accounts. Especilally, the frequency of eating out, the ratio of eating out expense, and the ratio of eating out expense on food expense were researched. To understand on Korean restaurant industry, Fast food market, family restaurant market, pizza restaurant market, and ice cream market was analyzed because the markets have sales records continuously on Korean restaurant industry. During the time, the scale of Korean restaurant industry up over 2.58 billions US Dollar and the number of unit was over 0.68 million. It increased as a huge industry group. Comparing USA and Japan to Korean restaurant market, the possibility of development was sufficient. In the future, the Korean restaurant industry must be considered not only quantitative growth but also qualitative growth, and the filing of restaurant statistical data will be more important than now. However the restaurant statistical accounts were not clear right now. It is different depend on publishing corporation. This study has such a limitations. First, Korean restaurant industry yearly statistics could not be found between 1980 and 1989 except 1984, 1986, and 1998 since 1979. Second, the restaurant statistical data wasn’t published every year.
