Special Issue: Sport and Exercise Psychology Research in Emerging Countries Co-Editors Robert J. Schinke, Athanasios Papaioannou, & Thomas Schack

The International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP) is an organization devoted to promoting research, practice, and development in the discipline of sport and exercise psychology throughout the world. The Society exists in part to encourage and promote the study of human action and interaction within sport, physical activity, and health settings, and to improve the quality of research and professional practice in sport psychology. ISSP also endeavors to foster cooperation and understanding among people from all countries.

Within this special issue of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, the co-editors seek to advance and promote scholarship in (and from) countries where sport and exercise psychology is beginning to take root, including the African and South American continents, Arab speaking countries, as well as countries on a case by case basis within Asian and the South Pacific and East European regions where little has been written within mainstream Anglophone scholarship. Authors from these countries are encouraged to blend their research with their context. Particularly, this special issue is intended to feature the contextual backdrop of one's country in relation to one's scholarship (either a singular project or one's scholarship). One might do so by considering the past historical background and current state of sport and exercise psychology research within the country, and by integrating one or more of the following aspects: (a) accessibility to knowledge and international alliances in scholarship, (b) linguistic / geographic barriers, and (c) cultural values and contributions to knowledge.

Within the submission, it is important to explicate the unique aspects of the study / line of inquiry for the international readership. When developing submissions, authors are encouraged to seek alliances with scholars from established countries well versed in their topic, to assist with content and writing. Work that is well-written, concise, and in conformity with this journal's guidelines will increase the likelihood that your submission will be favorably considered. Cover letters should substantiate how the country represented through the submission qualifies as emerging within the global sport and exercise psychology community and confirm that all authors are members of the ISSP.

For informal inquiries, the authors can contact the co-editors Robert Schinke [email protected], Athanasios Papaioannou [email protected], and Thomas Schack [email protected] to seek further information. Papers should be prepared in full accord with the submission guidelines of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology and authors must conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association 6th Edition. Submissions should be made no later than 30 June, 2015 via the IJSEP electronic portal http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rijs. Authors must select: “Special Issue Sport Psychology Research in Emerging Countries” at the “Article Type” step of the submission process. Publication of this special issue is projected for June, 2016.
