From Ownership Regulations to Legal Indicators of Media Pluralism: Background, Typologies and Methods

Abstract

This article explores the European approach to media ownership policy as one aspect of the broader approach to media pluralism. It explores concerns and policy of the European Parliament, European Commission, Council of Europe, and various member statesand how these are addressed in policy and legal measures. It then addresses how these factors have influenced the development of theMedia Pluralism Monitor prepared for the European Commission.
