Abstract
The paper starts from recalling George Box often brought relevant events from different cultures and historical times into his enlightening talks and spared fruitful discussions with conference’s participants who were neither his collaborators nor former students. It also recalls he mentored applied statistics networking in Europe. Section 1 introduces and briefly discusses the Stochastics, Science & Engineering Initiative, largely inspired by the author’s lively discussions with George Box. Section 2 discusses the opportunities posed by this Initiative, including its potential for an academia-industry paradigm shift, and the fit into the so called Data Science. A set of nine kick-off specific questions is put forward for discussion. The paper concludes with final remarks stressing how all the issues under discussion could have benefited from George Box’s input.
