‘Bad’ women of Bombay films: studies in desire and anxiety

edited by Saswati Sengupta, Shampa Roy and Sharmila Purkayastha, Cham, Switzerland, Palgrave Macmillan, 2019, 381 pp., $139.99 (softcover), ISBN 9783030267902

Notes

1. Sengupta is used as a synecdoche for all three editors of this book.

2. An interesting remark by Shabana Azmi finds voice in the chapter on this film where she emphasizes the novelty in the explicit expression of sexuality by the wife, aka Chhoti Bahu, in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, something that was always reserved for the vamp.
