1 The verb huapangear means ‘playing huapangos’, i.e. improvised poetic songs making use of the Spanish décima (ten-line stanza), accompanied by a four-member ensemble made up of two violins, a vihuela or jarana (small five-stringed chordophones), and an eight-string bass guitar. The noun huapangero refers to the person performing huapangos.
