Practical Training in Equine Critical Care

Abstract

The RCVS Trust launched a scheme for veterinary nursing travel scholarships at the 2000 BVNA Congress. One of the first recipients, Kelly Russell, travelled to Lexington, Kentucky, and subsequently to Liverpool to study critical care techniques for neonatal foals and adult horses. Kelly Russell

Kelly Russell, EVN, qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1997. She has worked in a small animal practice, a large mixed animal practice and currently works in equine practice at the Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic in Maidstone, Kent. She enrolled for the Certificate in Equine Veterinary Nursing in 2000 and passed, with credit, in 2001. That year she was awarded one of the first RCVS travel scholarships for nurses and used it to learn more about equine neonatology and critical care
