Dear Colleagues, Authors and Readers of IPSE

The international journal Inverse Problems in Engineering (IPE), that was founded in October of 1994 and changed its name to INVERSE PROBLEMS IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (IPSE) in February of 2004, continues as a regular bi-monthly periodical published by the Taylor & Francis Group with an average of 136 pages per issue using a standard B5 format. The titles of papers published in the IPSE will continue to be regularly listed in the issues of Mechanics.

I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Masataka Tanaka who has retired from academia and from serving for a number of years on the International Editorial Board and on the Advisory Board of IPSE. Professor Tanaka is one of the most recognized international authorities in the field of inverse problems in mechanics who has contributed immensely to the popularization of inverse problems in the general engineering community. We thank him for his energy, enthusiasm and expertise and wish him well in his retirement years. At the same time, I would like to welcome Professor Oleg M. Alifanov as the new member of the Advisory Board of IPSE.

I would also like to express my gratitude to Professor John (Jack) Howell who has retired from the International Editorial Board of IPSE this summer. We would like to thank Professor Howell for his outstanding professionalism and expertise with IPSE and wish him well in his retirement years.

I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Shigeru Obayashi, Professor John C. Schotland and Professor Richard Lionheart, the departing members of the Editorial Board, for their outstanding help and professionalism and to use this opportunity to welcome Professors Amvrossios Bagtzoglou, Alemdar Hasanov (Hasanoglu), Aleksey V. Nenarokomov, L. Daniel Lesnic, Ashley Emery and Alexander G. Ramm as new members of the International Editorial Board of IPSE.

It is my hope that these changes will bring further improvements and contribute to an even faster development and growth of IPSE.
