The present issue of Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering–IPSE contains selected papers presented at the International Conference on Engineering Optimization–EngOpt 2008, held in Rio de Janeiro, during June 1–5, 2008 (http://www.engopt.org/08/index.html). Seven papers of EngOpt 2008 were submitted for further review and possible publication in the IPSE journal, four of them being accepted in the peer evaluation process.
The main goal of EngOpt conferences is to periodically bring together engineers, applied mathematicians and computer scientists working on research, development and practical applications of optimization methods, including inverse problems. The successful series of EngOpt conferences continues this year: EngOpt 2010 will be held in Lisbon, September 6–9, 2010 (http://www.engopt2010.org/).
We hope that you find the papers contained herein valuable and we are looking forward to seeing you in Lisbon this September.
