Abstract
In this article we review the scholarly work in the field of development communication and outline its significance to the broader areas of critical and cultural studies as well as social and political action in the public sphere. We will start out by laying a historical and conceptual account of this field. Later, we will focus on contemporary issues relating to development communication (devcom) and its quest for social justice in directed social change.
