Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD): Parental challenges and strategies

Abstract

Accurate diagnosis and the subsequent support for parents of a child with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) is vital to ensure that the child's specific needs are met. The primary objective of the research conducted in South Africa was to highlight effective strategies for parents with an ASD-diagnosed child. A qualitative research approach was used. This article presents the findings of the research, which can be used by educational psychologists in their support of educators of ASD-diagnosed children.
