Abstract

This article reports findings from a study of 96 former foster youth in one state in the United States regarding the transition-related services they received (both prior to and after age 18 years) and the outcomes achieved since age 18. At the time of the survey, approximately 60% of the sample was in the voluntary care of the state agency. Quantitative data describe the services received and outcomes achieved. Qualitative comments provide further feedback about young people's perceptions of services. Many statutory and private child-serving agencies continue efforts to develop services to meet the needs of this population. Study findings have implications for further development of these services to assist youth at the time of transition.
