Abstract
The following case study is of individual art therapy with a two-and-a-half-year-old girl called Anna, which took place at a childrens day centre where I was placed as a trainee art therapist. At the time I was a final year student at Goldsmiths College. I have attempted to give the reader a description of the sessions which captures how Anna used the time and how I reacted to the material that she bought to her art therapy. In particular I focus on how my being a male art therapist was a feature of working with a child with an absent father.
To protect client confidentiality I have changed names and some of the background information in this study.
