ABSTRACT

The scattering of a linearly polarized electromagnetic plane-wave from a sphere composed of an orthorhombic dielectric–magnetic medium having concentric layer of the chiral material is considered. The incident, the internal, and the scattered field phasors are expanded in terms of suitable sets of vector waves. By ensuring the continuity of the tangential components of electromagnetic fields across the chiral/ free-space and the chiral/ orthorhombic dielectric-magnetic interfaces, a relation between the incident and the scattered fields expansion coefficients by a transition matrix is obtained. Thereafter, the total scattering, absorption, forward-scattering, and backscattering efficiencies of the scattered field were calculated. The influences of the chirality parameter on various cross sections for different core–shell radii ratio are discussed numerically.
