Encouraged by the successes of the 2001, 2003 and 2005 International Conferences on Materials for Advanced Technology (ICMAT), at which more than 2,000 members of the international scientific and materials research community representing over 40 countries attended, the Materials Research Society of Singapore hosted the fourth ICMAT from 1 to 6 July 2007 at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Suntec City, Singapore.
Symposium B, entitled “Developing Nanobio Interface”, addressed a rapidly emerging interdisciplinary research field and brought together 90 international participants from Europe, Asia and America. It covered topics related to the inter-disciplinary areas of nano-biotechnology. A successful integration of biological functionality with devices requires control of the nano-bio interface. Many of the recent developments in medical electronics, cancer treatment, biosensing and synthesis of novel drug delivery systems also require a molecular level understanding of the nano-bio interface for more effective design and control. Symposium B hosted several invited and keynote presentations in these areas and received many high quality contributions from countries like Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Canada, United Kingdom, USA, China, India, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan. This symposium successfully disseminated the recent development in these areas and fostered academic exchanges and friendships among the many participants. Included among the contributions in this proceeding are some of the highlights of the symposium.
