Notes
In the case of Cambridge and Oxford, women were not formally awarded degrees until 1947 and 1920 respectively, so I have started from the dates (1882 and 1883) when women were allowed to take the university examinations, and have treated the results of those examinations as graduation-equivalents.
Girton College Register 1869–1946 (1948); Newnham College Register Volume I 1871–1923 (1979) and Volume II 1924–1950 (1981).
More than 300 women who graduated in mathematics up to 1903 are featured in the Registers mentioned in the previous footnote. A short (prosopographical) account of them is to appear in a subsequent issue of BSHM Bulletin.
For those who do not know of Philippa Fawcett's achievement, there is a biography on the website whose address is given in the following footnote, which also contains the Catalogue to the Collection.
