Effectiveness of Arts For Life programming: combating negative effects of hospitalization in children

Abstract

Background: This paper explores previous research on art programming used within medical settings and program evaluations in this field. This paper will also describe a recently conducted research study evaluating the Arts For Life organization who sought out this research partnership in order to evaluate their standing with their programing goals.

Methods: Collaboration between Arts For Life and Mars Hill University was established and a survey was developed in order to evaluate Arts For Life programming. Surveys were distributed and collected at the four Arts For Life stations. A total of 115 surveys were successfully completed and analyzed.

Results: Resulted in positive responses supporting current Arts For Life programming.

Conclusions: Arts For Life is viewed as providing a positive effect in the facilities where it is stationed. This research collaboration can likewise be used as a model for future partnerships between nonprofit organizations and undergraduate programs.
