Abstract
The whole world is currently witnessing a pace of globalization and urbanization that is affecting every aspect of mankind, including sexuality. The relation between migration and sexuality can be considered bidirectional. Migrants bring along with them to the host regions their beliefs, attitudes and sexualities. These sexual cultures intersect with those of the host region and result in a set of newer ‘evolved sexualities’. Factors like anonymity, independence, stress, opportunities, accessibility and affordability are important in this phenomenon. The current scenario of globalization may ultimately lead to an amalgamation of various sexualities, giving birth to a uniform sexuality throughout. During the whole process, the migrants’ ethnicity, religion and sexual lifestyles are important things to be understood. Heteronormative models of sexuality are not rigid, but fluid and vulnerable to forces such as migration. The article highlights the areas of intersection of migration, sexuality, religion and/or race, giving an insight into the ways in which globalization has affected these variables and resulted in sexual commercialization and diverse types of prostitutions. Migration may increase the risks of various sexually transmitted diseases, but on the positive side enhance one's sexual experiences. The multi-culturalism of today may lead to multi-sexualism of tomorrow.
