Exhibition Review: Fashioned from Nature

Victoria and Albert Museum London, April 21st 2018 to January 27th 2019.

 

Abstract

Fashioned from Nature curated by Edwina Ehrman at the Victoria and Albert Museum spans four centuries of fashion artifacts. This timely exhibition uses a focus on materials to chart the changes in human engagement with nature through fashion, highlighting the environmental consequences of fashion practices worldwide.

Katherine Pogson is a designer-maker of fashion artifacts, and currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at London College of Fashion. Her research formulates the concept of the Companion Object to interrogate how the examination of human boundary constructs can contribute to a set of alternative fashion practices which may help to reconnect humankind with nature.
