Considerations Sur L’exophtalmie Œdemateuse Endocrinienne

Summary

Oedematous exophtalmy may occur after treatment of Grave’s disease by thyroidectomy or antithyroid drugs. It also can be observed without any treatment at all. It then appears alone or associated to thyrotoxicosis. Clinically, it seems difficult to explain every case by the action of thyrotropic hormone. It is more probable that œdematous exophtalmos is due to a factor different from T.H., but in several circumstances, there is a simultaneous hyperproduction of these two principles.

L’exophtalmie œdémateuse peut survenir après traitement de la maladie de Basedow par la thyroïdectomie ou les antithyroïdiens de synthèse; on l’observe aussi indépendamment de toute agression thérapeutique:elle est alors soit isolée, soit associée à l’hyperthyroïdie.

Restant sur le plan clinique, il paraît difficile d’expliquer tous les cas par l’intervention de l’hormone thyréotrope; il est plus probable que l’exophtalmie œdémateuse est due à un facteur différent de la thyréostimuline; mais dans plusieurs circonstances, il y a hyperproduction simultanée de ces deux principes.

Œdemateuze exophtalmie kan optreden na behandeling van Basedow ziekte door thyroïdectomie of door synthetische antithyroïdea; men neemt ze ook waar onafhankelijk van ieder therapeutiek : ze is dan hetzij geïsoleerd, of gaat gepaard met hyperthyroïdie.

Op klinisch standpunt, is het moeilijk alle gcvallen uit te leggen door tussenkomst van het thyreotroop hormoon; het is nicer waarschijnlijk dat de œdemateuze exophtalmie te wijten is aan een factor verschillend van de thyreo- stimuline; maar in verschillende omstandigheden is er gelijktijdige hyperpro- ductie van deze twee producten.
